Teachings

Each student will find group's google doc under captain's name above, and add the following to the chapter assignment:

1. a one-sentence summary of the chapter
2. a memorable passage (quote and cite)
3. your opinion on what the chapter means (beyond literal)
4. one question for your captain

For me, it was really interesting to learn about the novel through the eyes of the students. I really enjoyed your summaries and your questions. Seeing the novel laid out in sections made it easier to see the way that Melville constructed it. Themes and motifs are layered in, building on one another. For example, the use of flames and fire in talking about faith comes up again and again, each time more profoundly.
