Queequeg

The beginning tells us all about Ishmael and why he went whaling. (Check out our rewrites below.)

Next we learn about Queequeg. Post a comment here about this character. Who is he? From where does he come? How does he get along with Ishmael? What do you think will happen next?

He didn't want to see with a man that he doesn't know. Queequeq has a peace pipe that he smokes out of. Queequeq doesn't like Ishmael when he first sees him. But later on they become good friends.

Queequeg has to many words to be described as, inteligent none the less. Different, known very well. Queequeg is very blunt and to the point. Change of heart something everyone has. Queequeg deffinatly sticks out as a one in a million. Art is a mayjor way that is described at the sight of him.

Ishmael is terrified of Queequeg when they first meet. Ishmael realizes he is a cannibal, he calls the landlord into the room. The landlord assures his Queequeg won't hurt him, and the landlord leaves them to sleep. Ishmael wakes in the morning, to Queequeg's arm around him, hugging him.

Queequeg is kind of a strange man. He scares Ishmael the first time that they meet. Queequeg has a lot of tattoos that are different colors and I think they may have some meaning. After Ishmael gets to know him they become friends and love each other. Queequeg shaves with his harpoon that he also reaches across the table with to stab his food and put it on his plate.

Ishmael in the beginning of the chapter went to a hotel and the name was Spouter-Inn. They were full but he ended up sharing a room. When he got to the room his roommate was not there. Ishmael wanted to be nice and give Queequeg the bed so he was going to sleep on the bench. It was not comfortable at all so he went to the bed. Latter on in the night Queequeg came in to the room and saw him in the bed. He got mad and alarmed because he didn't know he was sharing a room. Queequeg was going to kill Ishmael but then everything got smoothed over and they shared a bed for the night and woke up with their arms around each other.

Queequeg is a scary man. He might eats people! He is looked at as a regular character in the book. He's all covered with tattoos and has a peace pipe. The pipe kind of represents Queequeg. There is a pipe in a tomahawk that also has a pipe to smoke out of it. Queequeg is a hunter and his first instinct is to kill Ishmael because he doesn't talk like him, but the next morning Ishmael wakes up to Queequeg's arm wrapped around him like a married couple.
I think Queequeg would be the weirdest person I'd ever meet. I wouldn't be able to talk to him. I'd see him as a cartoon character. With tattoos all over his body, eathing people, and everything. No way would I be talking to this animal.

Queequeg is from a southern sea island. He is covered in tattoos and is a very fierce looking character. He is believed to be harpooner and he is a cannibal. At first he is not very fond of Ishmael due to Ishmael sleeping in his bed, but once he gets to know him they become friends.

Ishmael would have rather slept on a bench than share a bed with Queequeg, but the bench is uncomfortable, so he decides to share a bed with him but is scared of him. As Queequeg comes into the room, Ishmael notices all of his tattoos & his tomahawk pipe, He also worships a dark colored idol. Queequeg is also a very skilled harpooner.

Queequeg is a man with a lot of tattoos. He first meets Ishmael when the share a hotel together one night. Queequeg is known for maybe being a cannibal and is accepted by the towns christian people even though he is a cannibal.

Queequeg is a scary cannibalistic character. When Ishmael and Queequeg first met at the Spouter-Inn. If I were to meet an all out tattooed guy I would be seriously intimidated. Queequeg is an unorthodox character for sure, he goes to church and he is a cannibal. Ishmael is paired perfectly with Queequeg because they are so much opposites they are a perfect fit as a "couple".

Before Ishmael meets Queequeg, we hear that Queequeg is out selling shrunken heads. And once we finally meet him we see that he is covered covered with Tattoos with strange designs, Queequeg is also a cannibal and very skilled harpooner. When Ishmael and Queequeg meet, Queequeg is very confused and surprised and starts attacking him with a tomahawk until the the landlord comes and settles the situation, the next morning Ishmael wakes up with Queequeg arm over him in a loving manner. Ishmael notices Queequeg uses is harpoon for everything. And you notice Queequeg and Ishmael form a pack together.

Queequeg is well different. He is a cannibal and yet they trust him being a harpooner. He becomes Ishmael's friends. Queequeg is a Prince from the South Sea.

Queequeg is a native person of some area. He looks like a savage to Ishmael, but Queequeg later surprises Ishmael by showing civilized manners such as shaving with his harpoon. Ishmael later becomes friends with Queequeg. One of his comments was he would rather sleep with a "sober cannibal" than a "drunken Christian"

Queequeg was a weird man. He is a cannibal and yet Ishmael sees him at a church. It must have been weird to find a cannibal sitting in church when he went there. Not only is Queequeg a cannibal, he also ate and shaved with his harpoon that he used to harpoon whales with, which is kinda gross. They ended up sleeping together in the same bed. But before this, Queequeg was out selling shrunken heads, so Ishmael was freaking out when he found out that they had to share a room. He called the landlord, and the landlord said that nothing would happen. The next morning, he woke up with Queequeg’s arm was around him lovingly.

Queequeg is a very interesting man. He is a cannibal and a very skilled harpooner. Before Queequeg left to set out on a adventure whaling, he was a prince from a southern sea. Queequeg is covered with all kinds of tattoos and is very mean to Ishmael. Queequeg and Ishmael soon become good friends and actually end up cuddling together. I believe that later on the book Queequeg and Ishmael will end up looking out for each other and making sure either of them don't get hurt.

Queequeg has Indian looking tattoo's, and a light complexion. The first night Ishmael and Queequeg met they slept in the same room because it was the only room left. And queequeg puts a tomahawk pipe up to Ishmael's neck.

Although Queequeg is pictured as a tough and frightening character, he is gentle and loving. At first, he is pictured making a shrine for his idol, which is very different from the way normal people worship. Being covered in black squares and selling heads in the street, suggest that he is a savage and inhuman. But later Ishmael discovers that he goes to church, worships and acts like a normal human being. Ishmael starts accepting Queequeg for his personality, not just by appearance.

At first sight, Queequeq, seems to be the average person's worst nightmare roommate. Queequeg is a tattooed native cannibal, he has many harpoons (due to his skill at killing whales), and a hatchet/peace pipe. When Ishmael and Queequeg first meet they start off quarrelsome. Queegueg attacks Ishmael with a tomahawk, until the landlord comes and calms both men down. That night they both sleep in the same bed. Ishmael is nervous because Queequeg smokes a pipe in bed, Ishmael is not insured, so Queequeg stops. The two start the next morning out quite awkwardly, with Queequeg's arm over Ishmael, in a seemingly loving way. Although Queequeg had a rough first impression Ishmael finds Queequeg is a good friend and has quite good hygiene, along with shaving with a harpoon!

Queequeg is a book that you judge by the cover. By sight he is very odd, all tattooed up, carrying a harpoon, and human heads. From the white man's point of view he is nothing short of a savage. As we learn though he is not a bad guy. He is even likes cuddle as ishmael finds out. Queequeg even makes it to church one last time before they ship leaves for their voyage.

Queequeg is a harpooner from a far native land. He has tattoos all over his body and carries his harpoon around with him. The tomahawk he has is also a pipe which he uses to smoke out of. Queequeg has a little black idol that he worships before he goes to bed. When Ishmael stays at the Spouter-Inn since theres no room he finds out he must share his bed with another person. This person turns out to be Queequeg. At first Ishmael is scared of him but soon becomes friends with him. What I think will happen next is Queequeg, being so different will show Ishmael his different way of thinking and philosophy on things.

Queequeg is at first sight, a savage. He carries a Tomahawk Peacepipe, a harpoon that he eats and shaves with, and human heads. Queequeg is covered in strange tattoos, which add to Ishmael's distaste. Later on Ishmael finds out Queequrg isn't so bad after all.

Queequeg is a different man, a scary man. He is a cannibal with tattoos all over which to me is pretty intimidating. He doesn't really like Ishmael but later on they become friends. Queequeg smokes a peace pipe. :-)

Queequeg is a cannibalistic man who befriends Ishmael soon after they meet. They didn't exactly hit it off right away, and Queequeg didn't really like Ishmael but after a warm snuggly night together they became friends. Queequeg is the harpooner on the ship, Pequod. Queequeg was once a prince in a southern sea. He has a kind heart, and is often times misrepresented. He is completely covered in tattoos and body piercings and at first he may look quite scary.

I think that Queequeg is the mystery to this story as of right now. We don't really know where he came from or what he's done, and the mystery of whether or not he's good or bad is the dark side of this book.

When Ishmael find out he has to share a bed with a man named Queequeg, who has a lot of tattoos. Ishmael thinks hes going to sleep on a bench, but its very uncomfortable. Ishmael then goes and sleeps in the same bed with Queequeg.

Queequeg isn't a very nice man. He scares Ismael and makes him not want to be friends with him. Queequeg also has a tattoos which makes Ismael fear him. I personally don't think tattoos are scary or anything I just don't think they are needed. Tattoos I think are just there to make a point. Mostly every tattoo has its own meaning but why put it on your body? Things could change and you might not want it on you anymore. Also Queequeg smokes which I think smoking is gross.

Queequeg is quite the character. You can tell he doesn't have any manners by the way he acts. He uses his own harpoon to shave and he also uses it to eat. He is also a cannibal and when Ishmael finds out, he is scared that they have to sleep in the same bed. They later become good friends and get along well.

Ishmael stays at a hotel and finds out that he needs to share a room with a harpooner named Queequeg. Ishmael is at a bar waiting for Queequeg and decides that he would rather sleep on a bench than share a bed with some stranger. He starts thinking that Queequeg could possibly be a dangerous man. The bench is too uncomfortable for Ishmael so he decides to put up with the stranger. Coffin, a man that Ishmael meets told Ishmael that Queequeg has recently arrived from the South Seas and is currently out peddling shrunken heads. Ismael is scared of Queequeg when he first meats him. Queequeg has a lot of tattoos and a tomahawk pipe. Queequeg worships a small dark colored idol. Ishmael puts his fear behind him and sleeps with Queequeg. Ishmael says he’d rather sleep with a sober cannibal than a drunken Christian. They soon got married.

Queequeg has a rare complexion, it is describes as " purplish yellow", which comes off a bit frightening to anyone who doesn't know the background of how he got the odd looking skin tone. Queequeg has marks up and down his body- his legs look as if frogs have climbed up and down them leaving scars and abnormal markings. This tells you, that he is a fighter. He isn't timid and wouldn't run from danger, but most likely run into it. He is very brave and is proud of his accomplishments. The picture he takes out, of what appears to be a wooden statue, shows that he needs motivation, and is somewhat spiritual. Even though Queequeg comes off scary, he stands with good morals and is overall still a good person, with a kind heart.

Queequeg and Ishmael meet when Queequeg slides into bed, unaware another man was there, and out of surprise he says he going to kill him. Ishmael was scared of this man because he has tattoos all over his face. Queequeg smoked his pipe and they both went to bed. The two men both go to church before their voyage to pray.

Queequeg is an Indian or a native depending on how you look at it. He goes every where with his harpoon and uses it to shave. He eats and does everything with it. Also he is very skilled with it. He formed a friendship with Ishmael after sleeping in the same bed and both have a common love of harpooning. He has tons of tattoos and he is a cannibal. He has a peace pipe and was selling shrunken heads out on the street.

Queequeg comes across as scary and intimidating when introduced, and seems like he wants people to think the same. He does absurd things with his old harpoon to make himself seem tough to others. Queequeg is a tough old harpoonist that makes everyone scared. When introduced at the hotel, he is the only outgoing one, filled with tattoos among many other things to rattle the other men. At first, Ishmael does not seem to interest him in any way, and wants nothing to do with him. I think the two men will be good friends throughout the adventure, and that is the reason he is made to be so important when introduced. Melville made an impression on him to last throughout the book which gives an outlook that he will be another major part of the story.

Queequeg scares Ishmael when they first meet because Ishmael saw that he had tattoos all over his body, he also found out that Queequeg was a cannibal. He uses his harpoon for almost everything and he is very skilled with it, Ishmael put that behind him and became friends with Queequeg.

Queequeg comes into the picture of Moby Dick almost as a picture himself. Here is this man full of tattoos and very defensive at first site, such as he was with Ishmael. Queequeg comes off to be a modern day street guy. His entire life seems to be depicted through his tattoos as stories other then intimidation. He seems to have grown up on the street. His best friend is his weapons and his instinct to live is eat or die. Simple. This causes a bit of wonder as to if Ishmael becomes a friend or Queequeg when he awakes in the morning or if Queequeg is just savoring a snack for later on. Thats where Queequeg comes off to be a cannibal in a way.
Queequegs frequently stated weapon of choice is his many harpoons. He uses these tools and weapons as his barrier in a way. The way he reaches for the meat and the way he uses it to keep people at a distance. On the other hand Queequeg has a peacepice/hatchet. This in a way seems to resemble Queequeg. At first introduction to Ishmael Queequeg is very sharp about his tone with Ishmael... The axe. Later on Ishmael becomes a really good friend to the point of waking up in a very close relation... The peacepipe. Queequeg seems to only have 2 settings when it comes to friends. Hate or Love, there doesn't seem to be an in between.
Personally I believe Queequeg will become a pitfall in Ishmael's adventure due to his double edged personality and rebellious tone later on.

Queequeg is a very different but interesting character that plays a big role in Moby Dick. He has a lot of tattoos and it probably has something to do with the fact that he's African, Polynesian, Islamic, Christian, and other Native American cultures. He is intimidating and scares off Ishmael the first time they meet, but they soon become best friends. He is brave and generous and he shows Ishmael that it's okay to be yourself and have people accept you.

Queequeg is a character that Ishmael is originally afraid of, he is a intimidating man that has tattoos covering his body, and he eats people... But I don't blame him I hear humans taste like chicken! But any-who, Queequeg and Ishmael end up becoming friends. He is a very skilled harpooner, he even uses his harpoon to shave and eat with. He is a interesting man and is multicultural, which I think has to do with why he is covered in tattoos. He is sort of like a grizzly bear, big, intimidating, and when he is hungry he eats people...

Queequeq is a very intresting charecter. Hes creepy and I personally would be frightened if i had to share a bed with him. Hes a cannibal that has scares all over. Queequeq has tatoos covering his body. I find it scary that he was returning from selling heads. He even tries to kill Ishmael when he first see's him! When Ishmael awakens next to his odd roommate Queequeq has his arms around Ishmael in a loving fashion. Ishmael isn't sure what to think. I know I wouldn't want a cannibals arms around me! ~ Tasha :)

Queequeg, the tattooed harpooner, is sharing a bed with Ishmael at an Inn. Ishmael is petrified of Queequeg because he realizes, after watching him for several minutes in the dark night, that he is a cannibal. Queequeg seems like he is going to show up a lot in the book. I think he and Ishmael have a special bond of some sort. If I were Ishmael, I honestly don't think I would feel very comfortable hanging around with a cannibal, or even sleeping with one!
